As the Olympics kicked off in full swing this weekend with an unforgettable opening ceremony, I know a lot of our British readers out there will still be reeling with pride. It seemed only right that we give a heads up to the Olympics by shining the light on some of our favourite retro inspired British sportswear pieces.
1 & 4. Nike light grey hoodie-nike x liberty £85, Nike x liberty print running shoe £90. Liberty London teamed up with Nike to create the Nike X Liberty Collection. Using the heritage Liberty prints this collection boasts Nike’s durability and functionality with a vintage twist. The flash of the Liberty print in the hoodie lining makes an otherwise regular piece of gym gear a whole load more fun and fabulous.
2 & 3. Our favourite Lifestyle brand Cath Kidston released a couple of Olympic specials including the ‘be a good sport’ sports towel £25 and retro sports bag £35 with London Olympic themed novelty print. I love these, if you do too don’t forget to click through the Cath Kidston advert in the right hand column of this blog to use The Big Mac Blog’s Affiliate scheme. (Affiliate scheme means a percentage of your purchase price will help support The Big Mac Blog)
5. High-Waisted shorts Fred Perry by Amy Whinehouse available at ASOS. The Amy Whinehouse collection for Fred Perry had some classic retro inspired pieces, simple, iconic, staple Fred Perry.
I’ve got so much respect for the athletes competing in the Olympics, for me that’s what makes these events so special. The awe inspiring level of dedication that it takes to qualify is astounding. When I think about all the hard work, early mornings and endless hours of exhausting practice it must have taken to get to Olympic standard it warms my heart to watch the games begin.
“The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.” Vince Lombardi
My favourite categories to watch are the running and the gymnastics, do you have a favourite?
