On 13th/14th of July, I will attempt to climb the highest peaks of Scotland, Wales and England in 24 hours! I shall be scaling the dizzy heights in support of Run 4 Cancer Charity, a small organization run solely by volunteers providing support for families affected by cancer.
The Inspiration: I’m not alone in saying I’ve known some remarkable individuals leave this fair Earth after battling with cancer, not least was a talented, young rock ‘n’ roll musician by the name of Nick Curran whom I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago at Screamin’ Festival in Barcelona. Nick fought cancer for a long time, his strength, passion for life and creative energy throughout his battle was a huge inspiration. Although Nick died in 2012 his memory and rip roarin’ music will live on forever. If you’ve never listened to Nick Curran’s music then you must!
In memory of Nick and all those divine, creative individuals we have lost to cancer I’ll be hauling myself up and down the mountains with every morsel of energy, sweat, strength, determination and jelly-leggedness at my disposal.
The Mission: Starting very early on the Saturday morning in Scotland, I will tackle the UK’s highest peak first, the mighty Ben Nevis at 1344m. Once down from the summit, I will start the overnight journey to the Lake District – catching precious sleep in the minibus. I’ll start climbing England’s highest peak (Scafell Pike – 978m) in the dark! The target is to reach the summit by sunrise. Next stop Snowdon… the highest mountain in Wales at 1085m. All this within the 24 hour deadline!
The Journey: I’ll be writing about my climbing challenge here at The Fabulous Times so you can join me in my journey. Currently sporting a post Christmas tummy and having been in hibernation for the winter, to say I am nervous and need to hit the stepper would be an understatement! Here I go, into my Rocky style training regime, where’s my sweatband?
My aim is to raise £550 for the Run 4 Cancer charity. Any support, be it financial, psychological or emotional will be hugely appreciated.
