Happy Pancake Day fabulous ones! To celebrate pancake day in style we headed to Bob’s Big Boy, the all American iconic diner in Burbank, California. Bob’s Big Boy, Burbank is a magnificent example of the emerging California coffee shop style that exploded in Los Angeles in the 1950’s. Bob’s Big Boy hosts a heap of vintage happenings including a 1950’s costume contest and classic car show. We drove up to Bob’s in style, in our bright red Mustang droptop, to be precise >HIGH-PITCH-SQUEAL< More than ready for breakfast we couldn’t wait to sample some of Bob’s classic delights!
Before heading inside for breakfast we squeezed in the obligatory photo session with the big boy outside. For those of you reading who shop vintage or trawl flea markets, you’re bound to recognise Bob’s Big Boy, there’s often original figures on sale for astronomical prices! The Bob’s Big Boy Restaurant located at 4211 Riverside Drive in Burbank, California, is the oldest remaining Bob’s Big Boy in the United States, so we knew we were in for a real treat.
We grabbed a booth and prepared for our feast. Bob’s has been a regular hang out for stars throughout the decades, perhaps most famously The Beatles dined at the Burbank diner during their 1965 U.S. Tour. The table is the last booth on the right as you walk in, where the end of the windows facing out towards Riverside Drive’s stop, regulars at Bob’s call this table and booth “The Beatle Booth”.
I ordered the pancakes with blueberries, syrup and a side of bacon, not to mention an orange juice and refill coffee! The pancakes were excellent and the service was friendly, speedy and efficient. Breakfast at Bob’s is served anytime you want it, morning, noon or night, you just have to ask for the breakfast menu. There’s also a full lunchtime menu featuring burgers, 1950’s style milkshakes and deserts and a whole host of classic American diner food, including vegetarian options at reasonable prices.
We wolfed down our breakfasts, chatted about who would play us in a film about our lives and revelled in our caffeine induced hysteria. Leaving Bob’s with happy hearts and contented stomachs, the sun was shining as we hit the road heading for wine country! Can’t wait to share our coming adventures with you…
Have a fabulous pancake day.
