What does Ketogenic mean?
The ketogenic diet is not a ‘diet’ in the traditional sense, more a different way of eating. You don’t need to go hungry. In essence the ketogenic diet is a way of eating based on drastically reducing your carbohydrates (sugars, starches and grains) and where your calorific supply comes from fats (lipids).
The distribution of calorific intake in the ketogenic diet is different to standard diet recommendations, in which carbohydrates represent half the calorific intake.
