Wether you’re a first-time buyer, renter or you’ve been in your home for years, you deserve to have a beautiful home that you love. You deserve to have a place that’s special, a beautiful home that brings you joy everyday. Your home should be a sanctuary, a place you can switch off, relax with your family and feel comfortable mooching about in your dressing gown binging on Netflix until the early afternoon.
But the truth is, a home can make us feel the exact opposite of relaxed. Our home can make you feel stressed and chaotic. That feeling like all you ever seem to be doing is tidying, making improvements, cleaning up, or trying to fix another thing that has broken- when all you’re desperately searching for is calm.
If your home has left you feeling stressed recently, it’s time to get that positive attitude back, that you most likely once had when you first moved in. Here are 5 ways to create a beautiful home…
1.Simplify: It’s hard to turn on the TV or look at social media without seeing something from Japanese Organising Consultant Marie Kondo. Kondo’s ‘KonMari Method’ involves sorting your possessions into categories, e.g. putting all the t-shirts in a huge pile, before sorting out which items “spark joy” and which you can give thanks to and let go. I began my Marie Kondo journey in 2017, it’s an ongoing process and a method that has helped me to declutter and simplify- this has given me a great sense of calm. Sometimes just having more space for your treasured possessions is all that you needed after all. The KonMari Method is easy to follow and has been a great way for me to sort through so much clutter! (Side note: still got a long way to go) Simplifying your possessions is a great place to start in creating a beautiful home. When decluttering and simplifying it’s also great to live by this famous quote from legendary Designer William Morris:
“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”- William Morris
2. Divine Decor:
Decor can be the trickiest decision you make when it comes to your home. If you want a beautiful home that’s truly going to make you feel relaxed and comfortable, then you need to choose decor that resonates with you. You’re going to have to think about the design you go for, colours, tiles, wallpaper and furnishings. Try to set about choosing decor with an open mind and just go with your gut instinct. Your home needs to reflect your style.
Sticking to neutral tones, is not for everyone and adding a pop of colour can really bring a smile to your face. When choosing colour, don’t be afraid, remember you can always paint over a wall if you change your mind! Do some research and plan before you set about making any purchases. If you really do struggle with your interior decor and getting it done to a high level, you might want to consider bringing in a professional to do the work for you.

3. It’s in the details:
Accessories are a great way to inject personality into your home. Buying a property can be a real struggle these days, this is something that Carrie from wishwishwish Blog spoke very eloquently about in her latest post. Adding choice accessories can be an excellent way to decorate your space if you’re renting and have limitations as to what you’re allowed to do. There is so much beautiful art out there that could be perfect for your home, especially your living room. Your living room is most likely going to be the life and soul of the house, where everyone gathers, and where all the fun happens. So to bring it to life more, why not add some art?
Staying along the line of accessories, you should really think about the furniture that you’re putting around your home, and what style you want. Consider the style that you love, if you’re into the seventies style then Wicker adds a certain vibe or Mid-Century go for a hairpin table, mixing styles from different eras can create a great eclectic look. When it comes to your sofa choice- remember, comfort is paramount!

4. Relish Renovations:
Renovations are going to come into your life at some point or another. You can’t own a home for a length of time, without getting that burning desire inside you to make it better. Perhaps your bathroom is becoming a little outdated, or your kitchen is too small and the layout is impractical. A renovation can change all of this and that’s what we love about it! The kitchen in particular is a great room to renovate, as Mr T and I have discovered! You might want to look at companies such as www.tapwarehouse.com to sort out some of your appliances, as well as checking out other bespoke websites to find all the bits and pieces that are going to turn your kitchen into something magical. You should think about the style that you want, and the layout. You need to ensure that it’s not only beautiful, but it’s going to be practical too. 5. Comfort is key:
Incredible comfort is something that you definitely want to achieve and the best way to do that is in the bedroom. You should spend a little time creating your perfect sanctuary at the end of a hard day. Start by investing in a good mattress.

You should also think about the accessories, crystals and other calming pieces, mixed in with some wonderful smelling essential oils, and a few indoor plants- will help to create a lovely calm atmosphere.
