Happy Friday Lovelies, here’s 5 things to inspire you just in time for another groovy weekend:
‘Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else’ -Judy Garland
It’s taken me a while to get to the stage where I am comfortable to be myself, once you realise that being you is the greatest asset you will ever have you will find you attract genuine friends, happiness and have a much more confident outlook. Remember you are perfect right now.
2. Read: My great librarian buddy Vincent recommended I check out the Vintage Paperbacks website. With over 800 vintage Paperback book designs you can see some pretty incredible book cover designs. Be careful if you’re anything like me you’ll probably spend hours looking at every single book cover. There are some real beauties!
3: Food: This week we’ve been toying with flavoured waters. It’s sunny outside so more important than ever to stay hydrated. It’s a lovely treat to go to the fridge and have a homemade drink prepared and chilled waiting for you. You could try something as simple as adding slices of lemon to a jug of water and sticking it in the fridge to chill or you might want to be a little more adventurous. Here are a few suggestions for flavouring your own water naturally. (A) Anything citrus, squeeze away Lemons, lime, oranges, grapefruit. (B) A tea bag works just as well in cold water as it does in hot water. Just steep it for longer. Add lemon for Lemon Ice Tea. (C) Strawberries + Mint leaves, tastes so fresh like a glass of summer.
4: Music: Today I’m listening to Gus D Oldies ‘the Duke of Doo Wop’ Podcast on Cruisin Oldies Radio. An ideal choice for a sunny day. I’ve been an avid listener for a couple of years now. Every Podcast is made up of the greatest Doo Wop. You can download it for FREE from the i-tunes store.
5: Style: Introduce colour into your wardrobe. If you’re nervous about wearing colour, don’t be. If you worry that you’ll look fat if you’re not head to toe in black or just find black to be your default setting clothes wise. Colour has the power to lift your mood and freshen up your wardrobe. It’s easy to introduce colour piece by piece and give you a bright and positive glow this springtime. I could literally talk for hours about the importance of colour and would love to go into this in more detail.
Today, I’ll share 3 simple ways to introduce colour to any drab wardrobe. (A) Choose one colourful statement piece of jewellery, the right colour worn around the neck will lift the face and break up the harsh contrast of black against the skin. This is a great way to freshen up tired wardrobes. (B) Switch your neutral colour. Instead of black wear an alternative neutral colour such as grey, navy, brown, khaki or mink. Softening black for a warmer neutral tone will brighten up your wardrobe in a subtle way. (C) Colourful accessories will give you a pop of colour. Wearing colourful shoes, socks, scarves, bags is a great way to add colour and lift any outfit. These simple tips work no matter what your age. (Images courtesy of Advanced Style Blog)
