Summer is fast approaching and that means some sunny evenings spent lounging around in the garden. That might be your own garden or that of a good friend or your dear family members, who can’t get rid of you! There’s nothing lovelier than spending time winding down in a well-kept, luscious garden. Gardening shouldn’t be a chore but a pleasure and can make for a fun group activity. Hopefully this post will offer a little motivation. For any of you fabulous ones lucky enough to have your very own green space, here are a few things to think about when preparing your garden for summer…
Create some shade
When the summer days hot up, you want to make sure you have a little shade as a refuge. This is particularly important if like me you have fair hair or if you have small children that need to have limited sun exposure. Preparing your garden for summer means investing in a good parasol. A quality parasol is a great way to cast some shade over your lawn or seating area. There are all kinds of parasols from the traditional garden parasols, cantilever or even wall parasols if your short of floor space. Solero Parasols have a wide variety of parasols available that are both elegant and high quality, so well worth a look if you’re thinking of investing.
I’d be hard pushed to think of any summer scene that isn’t amplified by good food. Setting up a BBQ and cooking up a feast on a hot summer night is the perfect way to enjoy the season. Some of my personal favorite things to add to a BBQ are pineapple and veg skewers. If you’re not keen on a BBQ you might prefer a Fire Pit for toasting marshmallows. You can read a few more inspirational tips in my previous post, which included four steps to a summer-ready outdoor space and linked to a lovely reasonably priced fire pit from Waitrose. If your space permits, you might even consider building an outdoor kitchen.
Sitting around a dining table in the garden with friends is such a fabulous way to while away the hours. When preparing your garden for summer it’s great to think of your outdoor dining space as an extension of your home. Recreate how you would typically dine inside the house or at a restaurant. Apply the same principles by using a proper linen tablecloth, serviettes, candles and add a few flowers to the table. Set the scene; take a little moment to make it a special occasion. As I’ve mentioned before the Quintessence YouTube Channel is my current favorite. The video with interior designer Timothy Corrigan in Los Angeles demonstrates perfectly how dining outsidecan be every bit as special as eating a meal in your regular dining room.
Hopefully this post has prompted a little inspiration and motivation for any of you thinking about sprucing up your garden for summer. Now is the time to think about possibly investing in a cantilever parasol, to invest or dust off the BBQ, maybe even create an outdoor kitchen. Think about the table linens you’re going to use in the garden, maybe you could even pick up some garden-inspired plates? The outdoor dining area can be every bit as lovely as your flowers and plants that surround it!
