Screamin’ 50’s Rock ‘n’ Rhythm Festival Diary Day #1: Arriving into Barcelona airport late on Wednesday night, failing to meet my train connection and narrowly avoiding being pick-pocketed on a dimly lit station platform was a slightly lame way to kick off my long weekend. However shrouded in darkness, my arrival was soon met by a bunch of sympathetic smiling faces, Rambo had been found on an English speaking TV channel and a Gluten-free Hungry House pizza had been ordered and arrived shortly after I threw down my suitcase, who am I to complain? We chose not to stay in one of the designated festival hotels this year and up-scaled for a rather fabulous crib on the hillside just above the Screamin’ Festival main venue La Fabrica. Waking up to the sun pouring in through the window was a long cry from the rainy wet Manchester I left behind not 24hours earlier. Seeing our home in the light of day did not disappoint, we have a pool out back and an impressive mature garden that surrounds the many levels of the house. Day #1 started with an early morning dip and breakfast poolside before heading to join in the festival fun down at Santy’s Beach Bar where it was ‘western day’. Keeping the Western theme in mind we hoped on a cow in the children’s playground for a cheeky ride. Missing the Western memo prior to packing I wore my new-to-me 1950’s matching set purchased at the Pear Mill Vintage Emporium. Luckily I also packed my new Atomic Swag TEXAS tee so had a little bit of a western flavour to add to the mix. We lounged on the beach listening to the music, swam in the ocean, sank a few cold ones (coca-cola’s of course) and relaxed in between cracking terrible jokes and applying copious amounts of sun cream. Santy’s Beach Bar was jumping with swing dancers ripping up the dance floor and DJ’s playing all day. The fabulous ladies on tour include (FROM LEFT): Moi (the First Lady of Fabulous, self titled obviously), Sarah Vee (the blue haired librarian), Christianne, Sushi (swing dancing extraordinaire AKA the Dynamite) and of course Terry (Dearest sister/ whisky drinking culture geek and all round generally excellent person) Following a hearty dinner and much needed nap we showered and changed, we all wore our Lindy Bop ensembles for our first evening of the festival! I dare say I’ll share a round up of my weekend musical highlights in a separate post. Stay fabulous! Christine
