Yesterday we woke up early to do some great yoga, after our first day of marathon training we really needed a good stretch, we followed one of the excellent videos over at www.doyogawithme.com
After croissants and yoga we cycled/ walked into Ambazac 7k from where we are living to stock up on provisions. We borrowed a couple of mountain bikes and braved the somewhat grey day to do our weekly shop. Yes , yes I know I’m sure I could have hired a car, but where’s the fun in that?
I half cycled/ half walked fearing for my life on a child size mountain bike with questionable brakes facing some pretty substantial hills. We took an empty rucksack and finally reaching the supermarket proceeded to fill it with vegetables/ fruit/ essential goodness and it weighed a ton(!) Fuelled by an incredible Pear tartlet and coffee from the local Patisserie we proceeded on our 7k death march back to our gite carrying our seriously hefty rucksack.
The views on our journey from Grandmont to Ambazac were well worth the perspiration. Ambazac is in the Limousin region in western France, with incredible medieval architecture everywhere you turn is picture perfect.
As I’m training for the Berlin Marathon as soon as we dumped the heavy rucksack we changed into our running gear, did our stretches and headed out into the evening for a run. The roads are so quiet here that you could run for miles without a car passing by. There was something really liberating about running as night drew in and it started to rain. I had my nifty little torch that I strap to my head that was an excellent leaving gift and light the way back. We ran about 2k, after our 14k hike/ cycle, running with the sun fading and cool rain hitting your face was blissful.
There’s nothing as satisfying of a day of exercise followed by a hot meal and cosy evening in. This is our traditional woodburner that so far we have toasted French bread on and baked a wheel of camembert, beautiful simplicity.
I would be so grateful for any sponsors for my Marathon. I’m running for The British Red Cross and will do my best to do you all proud. SPONSOR ME HERE.
Love + Simplicity.
