Viva Las Vegas is a three day rockabilly festival with wild music, classic cars and dancing held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Fabulous Times ladies hit this years festival hard and have compiled a list of survival tips for any of you thinking of attending next years event. Viva Las Vegas is the world’s largest Rockabilly Festival these tips are based on our personal experience, are you a VLV veteran? do you have any other tips you could share?Consider alternative accommodation: The VLV festival is held at The Orleans Hotel set back just behind the Vegas Strip. For the entire weekend the Orleans is packed to full capacity with festival attendees, with lots of festival goers booking their room for the following year as they check in for this years event! If you’re not one of the lucky few to bag a room at The Orleans we would suggest maybe thinking a little outside of the box. You could choose a neighbouring hotel to the Orleans or you could consider something a bit different. If there is a larger group of you why not try a proper Vegas mansion house? 5 of us stayed at the most incredible mansion house which was a $20 taxi ride from the Orleans and offered a relaxed haven away from the chaos of the Festival. With our own pool, hot tub, 5bedrooms, pool table, Wifi, TV and BBQ we were able to invite friends over to enjoy an Easter BBQ, play pool and dip in and out of the festival as much as we liked. Visit airbnb.com for alternative accommodation.Comfortable shoes! Before leaving the house ask yourself ‘were these shoes made for walking?’ if the answer is ‘i’m not sure’ then ditch them. I cannot stress enough the importance of wearing comfortable shoes to VLV. You will be doing a lot of walking between the car show, venues, restrooms (Vegas is huge), you’ll be standing up waiting for bands to come on stage and possibly throwing down a few dance moves. There is nothing worse than having sore feet and missing out on fun because you can’t walk. More about places to buy comfortable shoes coming up in our future VLV fashion post.Bring a bottle:Take a bottle of water so you always have something to keep you hydrated in between drinking alcohol, you can also avoid spending $3-5 on a bottle of water in the casino. If you’re a ‘real’ drinker take a hip flask for those moments when you’re favourite bands about to come on stage and there’s a queue for the bar.
Pace yourself: The combination of heat and the temptation to drink pina colada’s by the pool can lead to disaster. Be sure to pace yourself, drink sensibly to avoid sickness and post party self loathing.$ $ Bill Ya’ll: Only gamble what you can afford. As gambling novices we stuck to the $1 machines which was fun, with the house bringing you complimentary drinks just for playing. Take plenty of $1 bills so if you fancy a flutter you can play on the slots and not fall into the trap of feeding $20 bills into the machine because you have nothing smaller. The $1 machines also have the most imaginative designs including this incredible Kitty Glitter machine >YELP<
Fantastic: Be sure to take a fan then you can look both stylish and stay cool when you’re in a packed out venue rockin’ out to your favourite bands.
Most importantly enjoy yourself! be friendly and have a rockin’ great time. We have a few fabulous posts coming up this week with music, outfits and general Viva Las Vegas fun times, hope you enjoy reading them as much as we have putting them together!
The future is undeniably fabulous.
