When it comes to travel, some holidays leave us feeling like we need another break just to recover. Long haul flights, action-packed schedules with activities, day trips and sightseeing can leave you feeling exhausted. A lot of people yearn for a slower pace of life when travelling and long to feel a sense of freedom away from the internet. Let’s look at a few of the wellness benefits of a digital detox and how we can reconnect with nature through travel.
What even is wellness?
Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness; it is a dynamic process of change and growth. It is a state of complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease.
We all need to take a step back from our everyday life once in a while. All of us, irrespective of race, gender, age, size or shape; it is wellness that is the cornerstone of quality of life. It determines how we ultimately look, feel, interact with others and thrive in life and work. We all spend far too much time attached in some way to a mobile device, or staring at a screen.
“It’s no coincidence that four of the six letters in health are ‘heal.'”– Ed Northstrum
We need to take care of ourselves. Go for a walk; go for a run; ride a bike or take a digital detox. A digital detox requires a retreat that allows you to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. Stay in an off-grid traditional shepherd’s hut, with uninterrupted views and peace and quiet. When was the last time you stopped and gazed up at the night sky? Time spent in nature has a powerful way of healing us. It’s time to relax, unwind and refresh, your mobile phone needs to recharge and so do you!

Escape to Nature
Take a moment to appreciate the sights and sounds of nature at Creeside Escape Shepherd’s Hut. Listen to the birds; a buzzard overhead, a cuckoo in a tree, or geese swimming in the river. The gentle rustle of leaves on the trees can sound like music to your ears. One of the simplest things is to enjoy your morning cup of tea with the sun on your face. Even wind and rain can feel strangely comforting when you are in the right surroundings.
Wellness and the Environment
Within the wellness movement is an appreciation of the impact that travel can have on the environment. Travellers are aware of their actions and are increasingly looking to offset this while maintaining the experiences and aspirations they set out to achieve.
Why fly half way around the world when you can find amazing opportunities closer to home, aiming to be as sustainable as possible.
“Responsible travel is not only better for our world, it’s also more interesting and memorable“– Simon Reeve
When you think of slow travel it should be SLOW……………… don’t hurry, take your time to appreciate and enjoy your surroundings. Read a book, play a board game or look through binoculars. Our beautiful and undiscovered corner of South West Scotland offers an abundance of wellbeing opportunities; vast natural landscapes with breath taking scenery offer a wealth of ways to feed the body, mind and soul.
